Sunday April 19th

Headlines

  • Apparently Boris Johnson is not doing a very good job, according to the Sunday Times
  • https://archive.is/20200418182037/https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-38-days-when-britain-sleepwalked-into-disaster-hq3b9tlgh
  • There have now been 161,921 deaths from Covid-19 worldwide
  • The UK total (of deaths in hospital) is 16,060, 10% of the World's total
  • There are now 2,358,683 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the world
  • Nobody knows how many there are in the UK because of the lack of testing
  • The UK faces a real crisis of PPE for health workers, care workers and other essential workers
  • Rumours are abounding, but have been denied by the Government, that schools are to reopen on May 25th as the lockdown is relaxed
  • The National Education Union has said that this could be a disaster as schools are not prepared in terms of PPE for teachers which may not be appropriate for primary schools in any case (Teachers demand answers over school reopening rumours)
  • Deaths yesterday were down to 596 but falls at weekends are usual
  • There is some indication on the trend chart (see below) that the trend in deaths is starting to move downward.

Trend

There is some hope in this trend line, although the trend remains upward (dotted line) the fact that the 7 day average is falling could show that the peak has been reached. It is, of course, too early to say for sure.
