Monday April 20th
Headlines
- There have been 166,271 deaths worldwide
- There have been 2,430,733 confirmed cases worldwide
- The British Government continue to be criticised for only counting hospital deaths and not including deaths in care homes and at home which are included in the counts of other countries.
- There have been 16,509 deaths in hospitals since March 5th
- Yesterday a further 449 new deaths were recorded
- This is the 2nd consecutive day in which the number of hospital deaths has fallen and the lowest daily rise since 6th April
- The Government have published 5 tests for lifting the lockdown, one of which is new deaths falling though it is not clear for how many days.
- The World Health Organisation has published a list of 6 tests which should be met prior to a lockdown being eased (see below)
- Government stats are being released later and later with national and regional data often lagging a day behind the UK stats. This is making it difficult to manage the data and calculate meaningful statistics.
Quote of the day
“The idea that the Prime Minister skipped meetings that were vital to our response to the coronavirus is grotesque” Michael Gove to Sky News' Sohpy Ridge in response to the Sunday Times revelations (full link in yesterdays blog). Number 10 have confirmed that Boris Johnson did indeed miss 5 COBRA meetings in January as reported.
